Like a lot of parents, we found ourselves in a hospital exam room for a stressful visit with our baby girl. We were worried, focused on the appointment, not really thinking about anything else.
Then our five-month-old discovered the crinkly medical paper covering the table. She kicked her legs and it crinkled. She waved her arms and it crinkled again. Within a few seconds she had figured out that every movement she made created a new sound.
She giggled, kicked, and rolled, completely fascinated, for nearly fifteen minutes. Something that simple held her the whole time.
As we watched her play, my wife laughed and said:
